Dolly Parton's Wikipedia page defaced with swastika: "Loves Jews"
Just hours after the announcement of the music star's death, unknown individuals defaced her page with offensive expressions, an image of a Nazi flag, and praise for a school shooter. The page was restored within a few hours.
The Wikipedia page of country music legend Dolly Parton was defaced with "twisted" antisemitic expressions and Nazi symbols just hours after news of her death broke, according to reports recently revealed.
A screenshot shared by the organization "Campaign Against Antisemitism" showed a version of the page where the late singer's name was replaced with the offensive phrase "loves Jews." It is believed the statement was directed at her long-standing friendship with impresario Sandy Gallin, who passed away previously and served as her personal manager for 25 years, between the 1970s and the 1990s.
Praise for the mass murderer
In addition, Parton's photo was replaced with an image of the red-and-white flag of the Third Reich, featuring a black swastika in the center. In another part of the page, the vandals inserted the sentence "Adam Lanza was a hero" — a reference to the 20-year-old mass murderer who carried out the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. It should be recalled that the youngest victim of the horrific massacre was Noah Pozner, a six-year-old Jewish boy.
The changes and acts of vandalism were quickly removed by volunteer Wikipedia editors and with the assistance of the site's automatic content filters shortly after they were made.
A spokesperson for the "Campaign Against Antisemitism" said in response to the incident to the Jewish Chronicle:
"Dolly Parton's Wikipedia page was defaced with a swastika and the words 'loves Jews' just hours after she died. These vile edits are no longer there, but the fact that someone chose to exploit her death to spread antisemitic hatred is absolutely despicable. It takes a truly twisted mind to turn a moment of mourning into a conduit for hatred."
