Finance Committee expected to approve 226.5 million shekels for Haredi education
Following news of a 340 million shekel transfer to settlements, the Ministry of Education has requested an additional 226.5 million shekels for the Haredi sector. MK Naor Shiri criticized the move.
After it was learned on Thursday that the Finance Committee is expected to approve this week the transfer of 340 million shekels to settlements in Judea and Samaria, the Ministry of Education is now requesting to continue transferring funds for other sectoral purposes — in this case, mainly for Haredi education, in the amount of 226.5 million shekels.
The Ministry of Education proposes to distribute the funds as follows:

26.1 million shekels for a program to prevent dropout from yeshivas;

16.1 million shekels to increase subsidies for after-school programs to 100% in 'Patur' institutions;

30.3 million shekels for state-religious education;

12.5 million shekels for support of Jewish culture;

15.2 million shekels for expanding support for certain Torah institutions operating in the Tkuma region;

3.3 million shekels for coordination and liaison bodies for Torah institutions;
-
approximately 69 million shekels for the recognized but non-official education networks 'Bnei Yosef - Maayan HaHinuch HaTorani' (Shas) and the Independent Education system (United Torah Judaism).
Member of the Finance Committee, MK Naor Shiri (Yesh Atid) expressed his outrage:
«Less than 10 hours pass, and the coalition is again transferring hundreds of millions more to the Haredi sector. The alliance of Benjamin Netanyahu and Moshe Gafni has never been stronger. Let every Israeli citizen remember who the natural partners of the Likud are. The refusers and the draft dodgers.»
