Kim Kardashian is once again sparking controversy online, this time over a $148 holiday gift set from her fashion brand, SKIMS. Launched ahead of Christmas, the product features 12 compartments filled with small fashion accessories. However, a viral unboxing video has triggered a wave of amused reactions and criticism regarding the high price tag.
In a TikTok video posted by creator @wetsloppyswollen, which garnered millions of views, the buyer opens the compartments one by one. Initially excited by a teddy bear keychain, her enthusiasm quickly turns to disappointment as she continues opening the gifts.
Among the items, she discovers hair ties, bobby pins, hair clips, and a stress toy. "Kimberly, you are seriously about to tick me off," she tells the camera, adding, "This is way too expensive."
The product is an advent calendar, a gift package used to count down the days until Christmas. In Kardashian's case, however, it contains only 12 compartments, averaging about $12.33 per item. Commenters did not hold back, comparing the items to cheap products from Temu or joking that they resemble items typically found between car seats.
Despite the backlash, the set has already sold out on the official website, though customers can now join a waiting list. Kardashian herself had praised the item as one of her favorites in the new holiday collection, telling ELLE magazine that she loves the excitement of counting down to the holidays.
