Just before the collapse: Razer acquires StreamElements in a rescue deal
Gaming giant Razer has announced the acquisition of assets from the streaming platform StreamElements. The deal follows months of severe financial instability and the threat of insolvency for the service.

The international gaming and peripheral giant Razer has announced the acquisition of most of the assets of the content creation and streaming platform StreamElements. The deal comes after long months of severe financial turmoil, massive waves of layoffs, and a real danger of insolvency for the platform, which has served millions of content creators around the world for years.
StreamElements was founded as a great promise in the streaming field and offered end-to-end solutions for creators on platforms such as Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Gaming — from chatbots, visual overlays, and real-time alerts, to tools for monetization and sponsorship management. In 2021, the company experienced its peak, raising about $100 million in a Series B round led by the giant fund SoftBank Vision Fund 2, alongside other prominent investors. In total, the company raised over $111 million throughout its years of operation.
Despite the significant capital raised and the broad user base, the company has encountered heavy operational and financial difficulties in recent years. The challenging market environment, along with a decline in revenue and an increase in expenses, led it to a struggle for survival. In the months leading up to the sale, the company carried out several painful waves of layoffs and began an accelerated search for a strategic buyer to save it from collapse.
According to industry reports, the acquisition amount reflects a valuation significantly lower than the total venture capital invested in the company over the years (a rescue deal). As part of the deal terms, a portion of the acquisition amount will be allocated to settle open debts and payments owed to content creators and streamers, while the previous parent company, Live Momentum, will continue to bear responsibility for the corporation's past debts.
In its official announcement, Razer clarified that the StreamElements platform will continue to operate as usual, while keeping basic tools free for the streamer community. In the future, Razer expects to integrate its advanced lighting technologies (Razer Chroma) as well as payment and rewards services (Razer Gold & Silver) into the platform. For Razer, this is a significant strategic expansion beyond the world of hardware into software and services designed for the global streaming community.
StreamElements was founded in 2017 by Ram Sherman, Or Priel, Doron Nir, and Gilad Alush. Its main and prominent investors included SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Pitango First, State of Mind Ventures (SOMV), Menlo Ventures, and Rainmaker Securities.
