Jordanian Forces Arrest IS Terrorist Cell Following Deadly Karak Church Attack
Jordanian security forces arrested an IS terrorist cell responsible for a deadly church attack in Karak that left eight dead, following a three-day manhunt.
Jordanian security forces have arrested an Islamic State terrorist cell responsible for a deadly attack on a church in the city of Karak, Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya announced on Monday.
According to security officials, three terrorists were captured in an abandoned house in the Karak Governorate in central Jordan, where authorities also seized several weapons and ammunition. The manhunt lasted for over three days, during which security forces deployed checkpoints across the kingdom.
The attack occurred on Friday when the cell members arrived in a vehicle near a church during a funeral service. Three armed terrorists stepped out of the car and opened fire on the attendees for about ten minutes, leaving eight people dead and dozens injured. Among the wounded was former Jordanian parliamentarian Ayman Al-Madanat.
"We caught the killers and we are examining all circumstances that led these young men to extremism," Interior Minister Al-Faraya stated. "We will hold accountable anyone involved."
King Abdullah vowed that Jordan would confront the terrorist onslaught with the harshest punishments, emphasizing that the attack would fail to divide the nation's unity.
