Lula Leads Flavio Bolsonaro in Razor-Thin Brazil Presidential Runoff
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva holds a narrow lead over Flavio Bolsonaro in a tense presidential runoff, with Jerusalem closely watching the election outcome.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva holds a razor-thin lead over Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, in the second round of Brazil's presidential election, following a dramatic vote count characterized by sudden reversals.
With approximately 61% of polling stations reporting, incumbent President Lula leads with 50.6% of the vote, compared to 49.4% for Flavio Bolsonaro. AtlasIntel polling director told Reuters that based on current trends Lula is expected to secure reelection, while a model by the Brazilian newspaper Estadao projects a final finish of 51.4% for the incumbent.
The count has been intensely volatile. Lula initially opened with an advantage, but after about 14% of votes were tallied, Flavio Bolsonaro surged ahead, maintaining a narrow lead until roughly half the ballots were processed. The tense atmosphere was further compounded by a last-minute Supreme Court ruling extending voting by two hours following a petition by Lula's campaign alleging voter suppression.
Jerusalem is closely watching the election outcome, hoping for a diplomatic shift. Following controversial remarks comparing the conflict in Gaza to the Holocaust, President Lula was declared persona non grata in Israel. In contrast, Flavio Bolsonaro visited Israel earlier this year and pledged to relocate the Brazilian embassy to Jerusalem, aligning with the pro-Israel stance of his father's political movement.
