Jordanian Air Force launched airstrikes targeting militant hideouts in southern Syria on Monday, following a deadly terrorist attack at a Greek Orthodox church in Karak, Jordan, last week.

The military stated that the operation, codenamed "Jordanian Deterrence," was conducted in coordination with the Syrian government and successfully destroyed multiple terrorist sites and vehicles, resulting in casualties among the operatives.

Arrests and Casualties

Earlier on Monday, Jordanian authorities announced the arrest of three suspects linked to the Islamic State group over the Friday attack. The assault claimed the lives of eight people and left dozens injured, including former Jordanian parliament member Ayman Al-Madanat, after three gunmen opened fire inside the church.

Following the tragedy, the United States Embassy in Amman increased security at embassies, shopping centers, and other key sites, while Jordan declared three days of national mourning.

Official Responses

King Abdullah II strongly condemned the attack, vowing severe punishment for those responsible and emphasizing national unity. "We will strike with an iron fist anyone who dares to attack this country," the monarch stated.

Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III also condemned the atrocity, expressing confidence in Jordanian security forces. Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Syria, Lebanon, and Qatar, issued statements denouncing the violence over the weekend.
