Joe Rogan Faces Backlash Over Controversial Claims on Israeli DNA and Origins
Podcast host Joe Rogan faced severe criticism after claiming on his show that genetic testing is restricted in Israel to hide Jewish origins. Experts and genetic studies have debunked his assertions.

Joe Rogan, host of the world's most popular podcast 'The Joe Rogan Experience', made controversial claims regarding the genetic origins of Israeli Jews during a recent episode. Speaking with comedian Sam Talent, Rogan alleged that DNA testing is restricted in Israel to hide the supposed non-Semitic origins of its population, claiming that European-rooted figures like Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mean 'the real Semites are the Palestinians.' These assertions have been heavily criticized by geneticists and historians as inaccurate and misleading.
Legal experts point out that restrictions on DNA testing in Israel, particularly concerning paternity and familial relations, stem from strict privacy laws and child protection regulations rather than an ethnic cover-up. Major genetic studies, including peer-reviewed research published in the journal Nature, demonstrate that Jewish diaspora populations share deep common ancestral roots originating in the Levant. Furthermore, linguists and historians note that 'Semitic' is a language family—encompassing Hebrew, Arabic, and Aramaic—rather than a biological or racial category, while the term 'antisemitism' was coined in the 19th century specifically to describe anti-Jewish prejudice.
This is not the first time Rogan has faced criticism for airing controversial statements regarding Jews and Israel. Previous episodes have drawn sharp rebukes from organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League for providing a platform to conspiracy theorists and promoting tropes that blur the line between legitimate political discourse and antisemitism.
