The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced that Jay-Z has been selected to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, scheduled for February 14, 2027, at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. This announcement marks a significant turning point for the iconic rapper, who has partnered with the NFL through Roc Nation since 2019 to produce the halftime show and curate its performers, having previously resisted taking the stage himself.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recalled that when their partnership first began, he urged the Grammy-winning artist to perform 'when the moment felt right for him.' According to AP reports, Jay-Z initially pushed back against the idea, flatly telling Goodell to end the conversation if it meant he had to perform. More than seven years later, following a week of unconfirmed speculation, Jay-Z shared his excitement in an official statement reflecting on his legendary three-decade career.

The upcoming milestone performance coincides with the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint. While official guest performers have not yet been announced, speculation surrounds potential appearances by artists who joined his recent anniversary concerts, including his wife Beyoncé, Rihanna, Eminem, and Dr. Dre. Since Roc Nation took over curation, the halftime show has featured major global superstars, drawing massive television audiences worldwide despite occasional political controversies surrounding previous headliners.
