Israel Meteorological Service Forecasts Unseasonal Friday Rains
The Meteorological Service announced an unseasonal mini-rain event on Friday across northern and central Israel, bringing downpours of up to 15 mm in some areas.
Unexpected September Rains Hit Israel
Following unseasonal rainfall last month, the Israel Meteorological Service announced that another brief spell of rain, dubbed a "mini-Yoreh," is expected on Friday across the northern and central regions of the country. According to forecasters, while precipitation amounts will remain low in most areas, the Western Galilee, northern coastal strip, and parts of the Sharon region could see heavier downpours accumulating to around 15 mm.
Meteorologists noted that these quantities are significantly higher than the typical September average, which historically records only a few millimeters of rain at most. Long-term models indicate that further rain events are expected in the coming weeks, particularly throughout October.
Forecast and Weather Conditions
Local rainfall is expected in the northern part of the country and along the coastal plain. Temperatures are set to drop notably, especially in mountainous and inland areas, falling slightly below seasonal averages. Isolated thunderstorms may occur in the north, accompanied by strengthening winds before precipitation begins to ease by midday.
"Long-term models predict additional rain events in the coming weeks, particularly during October, and there is much to look forward to," the Meteorological Service stated.
Meanwhile, severe heatwaves will persist in the Dead Sea basin, while heavy heat stress is forecast for the Jordan Valley and the Arava. Moderate heat stress is anticipated across the north, coastal plain, Shephelah, Judean Desert, and eastern Negev.
Weekend Outlook and Temperatures
Conditions are expected to remain stable on Saturday with partly cloudy skies and a chance of light local drizzle in the north and along the coast. Ahead of Yom Kippur, temperatures will rise slightly on Sunday to seasonal norms, followed by another marginal increase on Monday.
Temperatures across major cities will range as follows: Jerusalem 20-26°C, Tel Aviv 23-30°C, Haifa 23-29°C, Beer Sheva 21-31°C, and Eilat 30-37°C.
