Iran Launches Missile Barrage Targeting US Bases in Jordan Amid Gulf Escalation
Iran launched a massive missile barrage targeting US bases in Jordan, with interceptions visible over Eilat. The strikes follow US attacks on Iranian tankers in the Persian Gulf.
Overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, Iran launched a barrage of missiles toward Jordan, reportedly targeting American bases in the country. The launches and subsequent air defense interceptions were clearly visible in the skies above Eilat, the Arava region, and further north.
According to reports from Jordan, the unusual barrage involved dozens of missiles. Simultaneously, media outlets affiliated with the Iranian regime reported additional Iranian strikes in the Strait of Hormuz. Sirens were also activated in Bahrain following launches from Iran.
Iranian state media confirmed the extensive launch of ballistic missiles from multiple locations across the country, including Isfahan, Yazd, Khomeyn, Tabriz, Khorramabad, and Shahrekord. According to the Iranian SNN network, the salvos targeted what Tehran defines as "hostile American targets" in the region. The reports come amid a sharp escalation and ongoing hostilities between the United States and Iran in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. Pro-Iranian channels reported missiles fired at Jordan and published footage of interceptions targeting bases housing US forces in the eastern part of the country.
The Iranian strike follows earlier reports of a US attack on Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf. A senior US official later confirmed that the United States struck several Iranian tankers linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in response to Iranian attempts to launch missiles at a US Navy warship.
Meanwhile, the IRGC claimed that its naval forces seized an unmanned US Navy submarine near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. In a broadcast on Iranian state television, it was claimed that the vessel was captured at dawn in a "complex intelligence and operational operation," that it is "equipped with the world's most advanced technology in underwater systems," and that it is now in Iranian hands as "booty."
