Floods and dramatic rescues: footage from Lebanon - and the rain falling in the north
In Lebanon, footage was documented of "a young man risking his life to save people at sea and a child swept away in a flood at a refugee camp," in Syria solar panels "flew away" and trees fell - and here we had a little rain. In the Western Galilee, flooding is still possible; this is the forecast for the beginning of the week.
Floods in Lebanon, destruction in Syria, damage in Cyprus - and a little rain in Israel: this evening (Saturday), rain began to fall in various areas of the Upper Galilee, the Golan, and the Western Galilee. Among other places, it rained in Safed and Kiryat Shmona - but at least until 22:00 in the evening, no more than a millimeter of precipitation was measured in any of those areas.
In contrast, in the neighboring countries, it looks completely different. In Lebanon, footage was published of damage from the area of the village of Yahshush north of Beirut, and of the impact of lightning and floods in Akkar in the north of the country. A child in the Palestinian refugee camp of Al-Badawi in the north of the country was swept away in a flood and rescued; in another recording, a "young man risking his life to save people trapped at sea" was described.
In Syria, flooded roads and fallen trees were filmed in Latakia, and solar panels that "flew away" in Aleppo due to strong winds, causing damage to a parked vehicle. Even before that, the summer storm caused damage in Cyprus, where, among other things, damage was caused to greenhouses and lightning struck an electricity pole, causing a fire. A waterspout was filmed on a flight from Cyprus to Israel.
As the Meteorological Service updated on Friday, despite early estimates, rain will likely not fall in large areas of the country - and the amounts will also be lower than those initially expected. The focus tonight is expected to be the Western Galilee, where flooding is also possible. Rain is possible in more southern areas as well, but not in large amounts or intensities. Until noon tomorrow, local rain is still expected, mainly in the north. Also on Monday morning, local rain may still fall, mainly in the north. On Tuesday, the day school starts, the weather will become pleasant, a slight warming will occur, and temperatures will be slightly higher than usual for the season.
