A baby suffering from high fever and a severe general condition was admitted to the pediatric emergency department at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Following a comprehensive medical evaluation, doctors diagnosed him with bacterial meningitis and transferred him to the pediatric intensive care unit.

The hospital reported that the infant is fully conscious and his condition is stable. He is expected to be transferred for continued hospitalization in the pediatric ward.

Dr. Amir Zilcha, a senior physician in the pediatric ICU at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, stated: "Immediately upon diagnosis, the baby began receiving antibiotic treatment alongside close monitoring. Unfortunately, we encounter cases of potentially life-threatening illnesses that can be effectively and safely prevented through vaccination. The Haemophilus influenzae type B bacterium causes meningitis, sepsis, and pneumonia."

Dr. Zilcha added that symptoms of the disease include fever, headaches, vomiting, and altered consciousness. Beyond immediate and even life-threatening health risks, bacterial meningitis can have long-term consequences on children's health and neurological function.
