Idan Amedi bids farewell to Zahava Shaul: "Rest in peace, the mission is complete"

Upon learning of the passing of Zahava Shaul, mother of IDF soldier Oron Shaul, singer and actor Idan Amedi published a personal farewell post. Amedi, who had maintained contact with the Shaul family over the years, dedicated moving words to her memory.

In an Instagram post, Amedi described the mother's uncompromising determination to fight for her son's return, alongside two personal meetings that remained etched in his memory — one following his own injury and another in the period after Oron Shaul was finally laid to rest.

"Zahava Shaul never gave up. Even when they told her it was unlikely. Even when they came to her home, time after time, with a desperate look in their eyes. She continued to believe that Oron would return."

"There are mothers who teach you, through simple words and simple faith, what it means to be a parent. What it means to love your children to the edge. What it means to fight for them, unconditionally."

Amedi recalls:

"We met quite a few times over the years, but two meetings are etched in me especially. The first was after my injury. You came from distant Poriya to Sheba, despite the difficulty and the illness, because it was important to you to see that I was alive. To hug me, to promise me tasty kubbeh, and to say that you love me."

"The second time was months after Oron, of blessed memory, was finally brought to burial. You came to a concert in Tel Aviv, and I was privileged to see you, after so many years, smiling a big smile, a real smile, from the heart."

"Only in a country saturated with pain like ours can the burial of a child also be a closing of a circle. But that evening I felt, perhaps for the first time, that your heart was a little lighter. That you had completed your mission. That you were allowing yourself to rest."

"I wrote to Aviram today that you were waiting for Oron. That you could not allow yourself to leave before the mission was completed."

"Rest in peace, dear mother."
