An unusual name drew significant attention in local elections in Peru as Hitler Mussolini Siméon Flores, a candidate for the Ahora Nación party, won the race for the mayoral seat of the Quivropampa district in the Lauricocha province.
Siméon Flores' name combines the names of Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany, and Benito Mussolini, the Italian dictator and founder of fascism. Despite his controversial name, his party belongs to the democratic center-left.
Siméon Flores won 229 votes, accounting for 34.54% of the valid ballots, securing first place in a tight race. Renovación Popular Perú finished second with 204 votes (30.76%), while País para Todos placed third with 187 votes.
The margins between the candidates were extremely narrow, with only 42 votes separating the first and third places out of a total of 663 valid votes counted in the district.
