Ministry of Health Urges Early Flu Vaccination Ahead of Winter Season
The Ministry of Health urges high-risk populations to get vaccinated early for the winter season, as hospitals and HMOs prepare for a respiratory illness surge.
Ahead of the upcoming winter season, the Ministry of Health is urging the public, particularly high-risk populations, to get vaccinated against the flu early rather than waiting for a rise in morbidity. Vaccines are currently available at HMOs across the country.
Simultaneously, the ministry has issued winter preparedness guidelines to hospitals and HMOs for public commentary until next week, focusing on the expected surge in respiratory illnesses such as influenza, COVID-10, and RSV. Hospitals are required to prepare for heavy loads by reinforcing professional staff, separating patients with respiratory symptoms, and utilizing protective equipment as necessary.
"Winter brings an annual rise in respiratory morbidity and strains the healthcare system, which is why early preparation is essential," stated Dr. Hagar Mizrahi, Head of the Medical Division at the Ministry of Health.
HMOs have been instructed to expand vaccination site distribution, promote public awareness, and prepare to extend operating hours and telehealth services to strengthen community-level response. Additionally, a campaign launched last week distributes flu vaccines to some 400 locations nationwide, including geriatric facilities and welfare institutions.
