Factory Safe Containing Millions in Checks Stolen During Holiday Burglary
A Netivot factory safe containing millions in checks was stolen during the holiday despite a triggered security alert, while a separate moshav home was burglarized of gold, jewelry, and a firearm.
A factory owner in the Sdot Negev Regional Council filed a complaint with the Netivot police after discovering that the facility was broken into during the holiday, resulting in the theft of a safe containing checks worth millions of shekels. During the holiday, a security alert was triggered at the factory, but forces dispatched to the location found no trace of a break-in. It was only when the business owner arrived at the factory after the holiday that the theft was uncovered.
Netivot police launched an investigation, suspecting that a gang of thieves carried out the operation. The owner is a well-known businessman who acquired the factory, one of the largest in the country, just a year ago. Concurrently, a similar burglary took place during the holiday in a moshav within the Merhavim Regional Council. Burglars targeted a vacant home, stealing jewelry and gold, and cracked a safe containing a handgun belonging to the homeowner. Police are investigating both incidents.
