Haredi Reform Party Pressures Abir Kara to Join Slate After Historic Female Signing
The "Hatzibur Hacharedi" party is pressuring former Deputy Minister Abir Kara to join its slate, following the historic addition of Dr. Nechumi Yaffe as its first female candidate.
Despite his announcement yesterday that he would not run in the upcoming elections, former Deputy Minister Abir Kara is facing intense pressure to join the "Hatzibur Hacharedi" (The Ultra-Orthodox Public) party. Sources within the party remain optimistic about securing a political alliance with Kara, noting that advanced negotiations had taken place prior to his withdrawal announcement.
"Hatzibur Hacharedi" has been campaigning for two months, targeting working ultra-Orthodox Israelis who are dissatisfied with mainstream Haredi representation in the Knesset. The party advocates for military service for ultra-Orthodox men who are not engaged in full-time Torah study, positioning itself as a reformist alternative.
Recently, the party held coalition talks with retired Brigadier General Ofer Winter. However, those negotiations collapsed due to disagreements over list placement: Winter offered the party the ninth spot on his list, while "Hatzibur Hacharedi" demanded the fourth spot.
In a historic move, "Hatzibur Hacharedi" announced today the addition of Dr. Nechumi Yaffe to its slate, marking the first time an ultra-Orthodox party running for the Knesset has included a female candidate on its list.
