Guy Zu-Aretz reveals health struggles: "I was afraid to make a decision"
Following a severe herniated disc that sidelined him from "Big Brother," host and actor Guy Zu-Aretz opened up about his fears regarding surgery and the crucial role his wife, Yael Bar Zohar, played in his recovery.
Guy Zu-Aretz has firmly established his status as a leading star and one of the most consistent figures in the entertainment industry. He currently anchors the Reshet 13 channel, hosting "Survivor" for nearly two decades and, alongside it, "Big Brother" with Liron Weizman.
Beyond his role as a beloved host, he maintains a prolific career as an actor in theater and television—from "Bustan Sephardi" to "HaShir Shelanu"—and as a musician promoting Ladino culture. His stable relationship with Yael Bar Zohar, coupled with their active social media presence, has made them a household name.
Following a grueling, round-the-clock work schedule, Zu-Aretz suffered a severe herniated disc about two months ago, which forced him to undergo surgery and take an extended leave for recovery.
As many recall, this health crisis forced him to step away from his hosting duties on "Big Brother." Now, nearly three months later, he reveals in an interview with "HaYom" the behind-the-scenes drama that unfolded in the moments leading up to his medical treatment:
"The surgery—first of all, thank God we went through it. It is largely thanks to Yaeli, who was there, helped me, and supported me. For my part, I would not have done anything because I could not make a decision and I was afraid to make a decision. But she was there for me and said, 'You are having surgery.'"
