A large fire broke out today, Tuesday, in an open area near the Ben Shemen Forest, causing severe traffic disruptions across the central region. Due to the intensity of the flames and heavy smoke, police have closed sections of Highway 6 and Highway 1.

Firefighters from the Ayalon station are operating at the scene. Although the fire spread near the highway, emergency crews have managed to contain the perimeter. Currently, 21 firefighting teams, assisted by four firefighting aircraft, are working on two main fronts, focusing on halting the progress of the flames, which were fanned by strong winds.

The Israel Fire and Rescue Authority stated:

«Crews on the ground report high flames and heavy smoke visible from a distance, which is significantly hindering visibility in the area.»

Police have provided the following traffic updates:

  1. Highway 6 is closed to traffic in both directions at the Daniel Interchange, with vehicles being diverted to Highway 444.

  2. Highway 1 is closed eastbound in the Ben Shemen area, with traffic being diverted to Highway 443.

Security and rescue forces are on-site and urge citizens to avoid the Ben Shemen Forest and Daniel Interchange area until the fire is fully under control. The public is requested to follow all instructions provided by personnel on the ground to ensure firefighting operations can proceed without interference.
