Former Military Secretary Accuses Netanyahu's Office of Falsifying Oct. 7 Protocols
Major General (res.) Avi Gil accused the Prime Minister's Office of falsifying October 7 protocols. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the claims, pointing to prior intelligence failures.

Major General (res.) Avi Gil, who served as military secretary to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the October 7 massacre, publicly accused the Prime Minister's Office of altering protocol transcripts from the morning of the attack. In an interview with Channel 12, Gil pointed to former chief of staff Tzachi Braverman as the official behind the falsification.
According to Gil, a stenographer was pressured to change the time of a crucial phone call between Netanyahu and his military secretary from 06:40 to 06:29. Braverman was questioned under caution in November 2024 on suspicion of falsifying official records, though his defense attorney, Jacques Chen, maintained that Braverman acted within his authority to correct a clerical error.
The investigation file was forwarded to the State Attorney's Office over a year ago, but no final decision regarding an indictment is expected in the near future, particularly amid the ongoing election period. Gil emphasized the severity of the document tampering, urging future state commissions of inquiry to demand original audio recordings rather than relying solely on transcripts.
In response, Prime Minister Netanyahu rejected the allegations and accused Gil, alongside other former security chiefs, of failing to wake him in time despite receiving early intelligence warnings on the night before the attack. Political leaders reacted sharply, with Opposition Leader Yair Lapid stating that Netanyahu is attempting to rewrite history, while Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Lieberman called for a formal investigation into the inner circle.
