German Care Worker Indicted for Systematic Abuse of 24 Disabled Victims
A 33-year-old German care worker has been indicted for sexually abusing 24 disabled individuals following an international tip from the US.
A severe indictment was filed in Germany against a 33-year-old nurse and care worker, accused of a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse against 24 people with disabilities, including children, teenagers, and adults. The shocking case, unveiled by the Cybercrime Center in Bavaria, has caused widespread outrage across the country.
According to the indictment filed at the Bayreuth Regional Court, the abuse took place starting in October 2018 across three different care facilities for people with special needs in the Upper Franconia region, specifically in the districts of Hof, Bayreuth, and Lichtenfels. Prosecutors noted that due to their severe physical and mental disabilities, none of the victims were able to understand or process the caregiver's actions.
US Tip Leads to Police Raid
The charges against the caregiver include the production and possession of child sexual abuse material, sexual abuse of children and vulnerable persons in medical facilities, and severe violation of privacy. Police investigations revealed that the defendant routinely filmed close-ups of the victims' private parts—some of whom were children under the age of 14—to satisfy his sexual fantasies, and in several cases engaged in illicit physical contact.
"The scale and nature of these offenses against vulnerable individuals are deeply disturbing and demand the full force of the law," investigative sources stated.
Thousands of Files Recovered
For years, the German facilities allegedly remained unaware of the abuse. The breakthrough came from overseas: the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the United States detected unusual activity involving the upload of numerous abusive videos to a cloud server and issued an urgent alert to German authorities.
Following the American intelligence, police raided the suspect's apartment last March. The findings on the seized electronic devices were staggering: investigators uncovered more than 38,000 images and over 600 explicitly abusive videos. The 33-year-old has been held in pre-trial detention since his arrest, and the regional court is now set to decide on opening his main trial.
