A 26-year-old woman, Renata Rebeca Negrao Saldanha, died early Tuesday morning after falling from the seventh-floor window of the Rio Poty Hotel in Sao Luis, Brazil. According to local police, she was sitting on a corridor window sill and leaned back when a section of the aluminum frame detached.

Investigators stated that the incident is currently being treated as an accident. Security camera footage captured the couple walking in the hotel corridor while reportedly looking for their room key. The victim sat on the sill, leaned against the structure, and fell as the frame gave way.

The victim and her partner had arrived from Pará state on October 28 so he could participate in a poker tournament, and they were scheduled to return home on the day of the tragedy. She leaves behind two young children.

The partner was questioned by police and quickly released, as authorities confirmed he is not considered a suspect. Lead investigator Jorge Marques noted that the security footage clearly shows no assault or push occurred, adding that the partner was not even close to her at the moment of the fall.

Authorities are examining the structural integrity of the window to determine what caused the aluminum component to detach, emphasizing that no final technical conclusions have been reached yet. The hotel expressed condolences to the family and stated it is fully cooperating with the investigation.
