Firmus, an artificial intelligence data center builder, has canceled what was set to be Australia's largest-ever initial public offering. The Nvidia-backed company announced that it made the decision due to recent market volatility and prevailing conditions, concluding that proceeding with the IPO would not serve the best interests of the firm or its shareholders.

Valuation Concerns and Private Funding

Firmus initially announced IPO plans based on a valuation exceeding 30 billion dollars. An investment firm told the BBC that it chose not to participate in the offering due to concerns regarding the company's valuation. Firmus now plans to raise capital from private companies and will weigh other private and public options.

"Firmus will now attempt to raise capital from private companies and will consider other private and public options. We will provide further information to shareholders once these options progress," the company stated.

AI Market Doubts

Firmus builds and operates liquid-cooled data centers, which it describes as AI factories, for clients including OpenAI and Meta. The company currently operates in Australia, Singapore, and other parts of the Asia-Pacific region, with investments from Nvidia, Blackstone, and Jane Street.

UniSuper, one of Australia's largest pension funds, opted out of the IPO. The fund's chief investment officer noted concerns over the company's valuation and the potential debt accumulation required to finance growth plans, echoing wider investor skepticism about hundreds of billions of dollars being poured into the AI sector.
