Israel Fire and Rescue Services has completed its first-ever advanced rescue course, graduating 29 elite firefighters and commanders. The intensive three-week training program was designed to prepare forces for complex disaster scenarios, including heavy missile strikes, structural collapses, and mass casualty incidents amid escalating regional tensions with Iran.

Preparing for Complex Disaster Zones

While routine firefighting involves vehicle accidents, fires, and height rescues, modern security threats demand advanced engineering knowledge and specialized equipment. Battalion Commander Lior Zada emphasized that potential scenarios like collapsed underground parking structures, fallen cranes, and vehicles trapped under heavy rubble require precise tactical decision-making where mistakes can endanger both victims and rescuers.

Instructors utilized the "All Hazards" approach, training participants in applied mechanics, physics, and independent problem-solving. Trainees underwent 24 practical simulations involving heavy engineering machinery, overturned trucks, and advanced technology such as the "Ga'as" heavy rescue vehicle and subterranean reconnaissance drones designed to detect toxic gases safely.

The final exercise tested participants on simultaneous scenarios: a collapsed parking structure with trapped motorists and a vehicle fallen deep into a shaft. Commander Eyal Caspi, Commissioner of the Israel Fire and Rescue Services, highlighted the critical importance of operational readiness during the graduation ceremony, stating that preparation must precede operational changes.
