Feces, vomit, and sanitary chaos at a metal concert: A performance by the New Zealand metal band Devilskin at the University of Otago's Union Hall was ruined over the weekend after a highly unusual incident turned the mosh pit into a real sanitary problem, according to reports from Australia.
"It was huge, just massive. I haven't seen anything that big before, I thought it was someone's shoe, it was so big. It was inconceivable," described one of the attendees about what fell, according to the shocking report, from the trousers of a middle-aged spectator during the Devilskin set.
"There was a lot of jumping. And then at the end, someone apparently looked down and noticed that there was just a huge mess of feces, completely smeared all over the mosh pit, all over the floor." The same fan continued to describe how it looked from too close: "It was on people's legs. People were wearing skirts and it got on their legs, and then one girl just vomited on it — and then everyone started vomiting."
Doug Stewart, the bassist for the opening band Pieces Of Molly, also described to Metal Hammer the moment the crowd realized what was happening:
"It was like a scene from a B-grade horror movie. A strong smell passed over the crowd. The crowd opened up like Moses crossing the brown sea. The rumor spread quickly through the crowd when everyone realized what it was. At that point, I started seeing people vomiting at the exit in the middle of the dance floor. The rest of the guys were in the green room, and then I decided to make a quick exit myself to take advantage of the green room and the free beers."
According to the report, the concert was eventually resumed, and the police located the man responsible for the incident. He was not charged with any offense.
This story joins several disgusting incidents at major concerts in recent months. Noah Kahan called on Congress last week to intervene and require fans to wear diapers at concerts, after people relieved themselves on the floor at his shows. Olivia Rodrigo also said last month that she smelled die-hard fans who wore diapers in the front row.
