European Unrest Spurs Shift Toward Private Villas and Rural Travel
Mass protests and security concerns in major European cities have driven a 20 percent surge in demand for private rural villas, as travelers pivot away from urban centers.

Recent months have seen mass protests and geopolitical tensions shake major European capitals, including Paris, London, Berlin, Milan, and Amsterdam. These demonstrations have frequently resulted in civil unrest, clashes with security forces, and hostile incidents targeting tourists, leading to a noticeable shift in international travel patterns.
Shift Away from Major Metropolises
For Israeli travelers and other security-conscious vacationers, traditional city breaks centered around bustling downtown hotels are seeing a decline in demand. Travelers are increasingly shortening their stays in large cities, opting instead for quiet rural areas, suburbs, and controlled environments that minimize exposure to crowds.
Spirit Productions, a company specializing in custom luxury holidays, reports a 20 percent surge in demand for private villas across Europe as an alternative to crowded urban hotels. This trend is particularly prominent among extended families and groups of friends seeking privacy, tranquility, and enhanced security.
Rising Demand for Rural Destinations
Villa bookings have risen sharply in pastoral regions such as Tuscany and Umbria in Italy, Provence and the French Riviera, Portugal, and the Greek islands. These locations offer safe distances from urban friction points while maintaining easy access to nature and local culture.
Tali Yativ, founder and CEO of Spirit Productions, noted that vacation preferences have shifted significantly. Travelers now prioritize privacy, family space, and a sense of security, alongside comprehensive logistical planning including private transfers and concierge services.
This trend aligns with data following recent security incidents abroad. Security firm SIH reported a more than 300 percent spike in inquiries regarding the protection of delegations and organized tours, highlighting a growing emphasis on safety among international travelers.
