On the way to Gaza? Unusual cargo discovered on a giant drone crossing the border
A large drone was intercepted while crossing the Israel-Egypt border. Security forces discovered a large cache of weapons on board, likely intended for the Hamas terrorist organization. Meanwhile, a resident of Ar'ara was arrested on suspicion of illegal weapons possession.
IDF surveillance systems detected a large-sized drone crossing the border from Egypt into Israel during the night. Forces from the Paran Brigade intercepted the craft, and upon inspection, it was discovered to contain a significant amount of weaponry, including 21 M16 assault rifles.
Security officials have not ruled out the possibility that the drone's final destination was the Gaza Strip and that the weapons were intended for the Hamas terrorist organization. The seized cargo has been transferred to the police for further investigation. It should be noted that the number of weapons smuggling attempts has increased significantly in recent years, resulting in hundreds of weapons and various types of combat equipment being smuggled into the country.
Meanwhile, police located several weapons last night (between Wednesday and Thursday) in the town of Ar'ara in the Negev as part of ongoing operations against crime and violence in Arab society. Seized items included a 'Carlo' type improvised firearm, two boxes of 9mm ammunition, a 60-round magazine, and two magazine couplers.
A resident of Ar'ara in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of illegal weapons possession and taken in for questioning.
"The fight against illegal weaponry is a central mission for the officers of the Aroer station," said Lieutenant Colonel Baruch Honig, the station commander. "Every weapon seized is a threat prevented from reaching the streets, helping to maintain the safety of our residents, and we will continue our efforts to seize these items and bring those who hold them to justice."
