Due to his medical condition: Oren Nahari to end radio broadcasting

Veteran journalist Oren Nahari announced today, Friday, that his program "Saturday with Oren Nahari" on Reshet Bet will be broadcast for the last time tomorrow morning due to his declining health.

Nahari, who is battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), wrote that he would use the final broadcast to share his perspective on the current state of the world alongside a selection of his favorite songs. In a post on his X account, Nahari explained that the second half of the show would conclude his well-known segment, "A Year in an Hour," focusing on the events of 1961, including the sinking of the Egoz ship, power struggles in China, the assassination of dictator Trujillo in the Dominican Republic, and the military coup in South Korea.

"I am very sorry that we will not finish our journey through the 20th century together," he added.

Regarding the final broadcast, Nahari stated:

"Tomorrow, the program 'Saturday with Oren Nahari' on Reshet Bet (08:00–10:00) will be broadcast for the last time due to my health condition. Since this is the final program, I have chosen to dedicate the first hour to an overview of the world today from a political and strategic perspective, and to talk about science—a field close to my heart. I will also play some of my favorite songs. In the second hour..."

Last March, Nahari revealed he was suffering from ALS and facing rapid deterioration. In an interview for the program "Meeting with Roni Kuban" on Kan 11, he spoke candidly about the illness:

"This is one of the most terrible diseases that exist. It is incurable, meaning all voluntary muscles begin to waste away. In my case, the deterioration is rapid."

Nahari is widely regarded as one of the most knowledgeable editors and commentators in foreign affairs, known for his broad-minded intellectual approach. Beyond his extensive media career, he is a frequent lecturer and has written and edited several non-fiction books.
