Water Leaks From Ceiling on Emirates Flight From Dubai to Istanbul
Passengers on an Emirates flight from Dubai to Istanbul faced cascading water leaks from the cabin ceiling. The airline attributed the unusual mid-air incident to severe condensation.
Passengers aboard an Emirates flight from Dubai to Istanbul experienced an unusual disturbance when water began leaking from the aircraft ceiling into the cabin, prompting travelers to shield themselves with blankets. The incident occurred on September 17 during flight EK123, according to Viral Press.
Ceiling Leak Caught on Video
In video footage recorded by a passenger, streams of water could be seen dripping and pouring from the ceiling panels onto seats and the aisle. Some travelers covered themselves with blankets to protect their belongings, while others used their smartphones to document the rare occurrence mid-flight.
"The water started wetting me like a waterfall," recounted Yin-Ying Chang, a passenger from Taiwan, noting that flight attendants provided no immediate explanation or apology.
Airline Response and Condensation Explanation
Emirates stated that the water source was an accumulation of condensation. The airline confirmed that condensation buildup caused water to appear in a section of the cabin shortly after takeoff on flight EK123. Cabin crew reportedly followed protocol by relocating affected passengers to dry seats.
-
Emirates apologized to impacted customers for the inconvenience.
-
The aircraft continued its journey and landed safely in Istanbul as scheduled.
-
Passengers were shifted to available seating areas for the remainder of the four-hour flight.
Despite the crew's actions, Chang expressed disappointment with her alternative seating, which lacked entertainment screens. Although aviation experts note that heavy condensation can occasionally overwhelm aircraft air conditioning systems, the incident drew considerable public attention.
