Director Eliran Melya Joins Gadi Eisenkot's Yashar Party
Prominent Israeli director and screenwriter Eliran Melya, chairman of the Directors Guild, has joined Gadi Eisenkot's "Yashar!" party to lead its education and culture platform.
The "Yashar!" party, led by former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, continues to expand its ranks ahead of the upcoming elections. Award-winning director and screenwriter Eliran Melya, who currently serves as the chairman of the Directors Guild of Israel, has announced that he is joining the party.
Melya is one of the most prominent creators in the Israeli film and television industry. He is known for directing the critically acclaimed film Doubtful (Motelim BeSafek), starring Ran Danker, and the successful television series The Good City (HaIr HaTova), which starred Oz Zehavi, Tiki Dayan, and Agam Buhbut.
Throughout his career, Melya has combined his artistic work with extensive social and educational activism. His creations have consistently focused on sensitive issues within Israeli society, including youth at risk, social disparities, and the education system.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Melya brings significant municipal experience. In 2018, he was elected to the Or Yehuda City Council, where he served as deputy mayor. In this role, he was responsible for informal education, the development of older neighborhoods, and the promotion of LGBTQ+ rights in the city.
Within the "Yashar!" party, Melya is expected to lead the education and culture portfolio, focusing on narrowing social gaps, strengthening local government, and promoting Israeli creative arts.
His recruitment follows other high-profile additions announced by Gadi Eisenkot in recent days, including social entrepreneur and Israel Prize laureate Adi Altshuler and Knesset Member Chili Tropper, as the party seeks to build a broad public and educational leadership team.
