The blocking of the world's main oil artery by Tehran is shaking global energy markets and driving up fuel prices in the USA.
However, in response to the American willingness to compromise, Iran sent a tough list of conditions. The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council in Iran, Mohammad Bagher Zolqadr, clarified that opening the strait would only be possible in exchange for the payment of billions of dollars in compensation for war damages, the lifting of the naval blockade, a complete withdrawal of US forces from the region, the unfreezing of assets, and a total cancellation of sanctions.
Iranian rigidity puts Donald Trump in a complex situation less than three months before the US midterm elections. While the President tries to present a picture of victory to the public and has claimed that military goals were achieved, experts warn that Iran identifies the American pressure to end the conflict and is using it to maximize gains. Middle East expert Mona Yacoubian noted that these demands make it difficult for the administration to produce a dignified exit from the campaign.

In the White House, officials are projecting patience. Vice President J.D. Vance noted in an interview with Fox News that Washington will continue to exert pressure to ensure the flow of oil and lower energy prices for citizens. However, as tensions on the ground continue and the UAE has reported an attack on another ship, it seems that Trump's aspiration to close a quick and winning deal is encountering a much more complex reality.
Iran continues to send tough messages
An IRGC spokesperson in Iran stated:
"The war against Iran is the only war in which the US admits defeat without achieving any gains. Continuous resistance and the defeat of the enemy are our permanent strategy. We forced the enemy to abandon its goals and act to open the Strait of Hormuz, which constitutes a geographical campaign. Our current strategy is to maintain it until the enemy accepts all our conditions."
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi added:
"There are no negotiations with the Americans, only an exchange of messages through intermediaries. We will not hold negotiations if they continue to violate the memorandum of understanding."
Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Forces Ali Jahanshahi stated: "We must be prepared for defense, and if the US tries to attack our land, we will respond with a decisive and deterrent response. Our forces are in full combat readiness, accurately monitoring threats and resolutely defending the country's borders. The active presence of rapid intervention units and special forces in border areas ensures sustainable security."
