Heavy loss in the culinary world: the renowned Israeli restaurateur has passed away
The colorful restaurateur Moshe Amado, founder of the famous "Amado" restaurant, passed away on Sunday, leaving behind children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His daughter Liat paid tribute: "He was a story, he did it his way."
The culinary and hospitality world in Haifa is saying goodbye to one of the most prominent and beloved figures in the city's history. Moshe Amado, who established the "Amado" restaurant in the 1980s at 5 HaMishtara Street in the Lower City, passed away on Sunday, leaving behind a magnificent legacy, along with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
"Amado" restaurant specialized in fish dishes and became a place of pilgrimage, a meeting point for regular "parliaments," and a warm home for many cultural figures. Amado himself was considered a man of the sea and a charismatic, colorful figure who drew many to him thanks to his sharpness, cynical humor, and joy of life.
His daughter, Liat Amado, said goodbye to him in an emotional post on her Facebook page: "How do you say goodbye to a man who was so much more than just 'Dad'? Whoever knew the Amado restaurant knew him, and whoever knew Amado will probably never forget him. He was a man of the stage, a man of people, a man of the sea. A handsome man, tall, blonde, with blue eyes... What really drew people to him was the charisma, the wisdom, the sharpness, the cynical humor, and the joy of life."
She concluded her words by dedicating Frank Sinatra's song "My Way": "Truly, Dad, you did it your way. You lived your way, you loved your way, you created your way, and you left behind a path that cannot be forgotten. My father was a story, and this story will stay with me for the rest of my life."
