Autumn migration season has reached its peak, with approximately 10,600 cranes counted this morning at the KKL-JNF Agamon Hula, marking the first official morning count of the season. The count took place at first light by skilled bird-counters as thousands of cranes left their protected roosting site to forage for food across the valley.

While some of the arriving cranes will continue their journey south, others are expected to remain in and around the lake throughout the winter months. Agamon Hula serves as a crucial stopover for migratory birds as well as a major tourism hub in the northern region.

The majestic birds arrive in Israel after a long journey primarily from northwestern Russia, as well as Finland and Estonia, heading south toward Lake Tana in Ethiopia. During their flight, Agamon Hula provides them with a secure habitat, abundant food sources, and a safe place to rest.

Alongside the cranes, numerous other species are currently passing through the area, including pelicans, flamingos, and various raptors. Inbar Shlomit Rubin, field manager at Agamon Hula, expressed the team's excitement as the valley awakens with nature's breathtaking sounds and sights.

KKL-JNF Chairman Eyal Ostrinsky noted that the site continues to inspire millions of visitors every year, proudly serving as a vibrant tourism magnet that boosts local employment and strengthens the economy in Israel's north.
