Videos on phone revealed the horror: 14-year-old blind girl sexually assaulted in orphanage
A 22-year-old man was arrested in Surabaya, Indonesia, on suspicion of repeatedly sexually assaulting a blind girl living in an institution. Her twin sister found videos on the suspect's phone that allegedly documented the acts. According to the police, he exploited her disability and threatened her to keep her from telling anyone. The suspect is in custody and the girl is receiving psychological support.
A severe case has been uncovered in Surabaya, the second-largest city in Indonesia: police arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old blind girl who lived in an orphanage in the city. The investigation began after the girl's twin sister discovered videos on the suspect's phone that, according to the police, documented the assaults.
According to the Indonesian news site detikJatim, the girl has been blind from birth and has lived in the institution together with her twin sister since they were three years old. They were moved to the place around 2016, while their mother was working outside the country. The suspect was arrested on July 14. In some reports, he was described as the son of the orphanage owner, and in others as a caregiver at the institution.
The case was uncovered after the victim's twin sister found videos on the suspect's phone in which her sister was allegedly seen during the assaults. According to Surya, a local newspaper, the suspect himself filmed the documentation using his phone inside the institution.
Following the discovery, the girls' family turned to the authorities. The police collected testimonies, sent the girl for a medical examination, and seized digital evidence as part of the investigation. The case was transferred to the stage of a formal criminal investigation and the young man was named as a suspect.
According to the suspicion, the acts occurred many times from the end of 2024 until the middle of 2026. It was reported that the suspect exploited the girl's disability, and in some cases exerted pressure and threats on her to prevent her from telling others.
According to the police, he used to act when the orphanage was quiet and when other people were not around. Among other things, it is claimed that he used promises to allow the girl to use a phone alongside intimidation intended to silence her.
In a video of a meeting between the suspect and the police chief, the suspect is heard saying that the acts continued for about three years and that his mother did not know about them in real-time:
«I have been doing it for three years. I did it when it was quiet, when there was no one. My mother did not know».
When asked why he did it, the suspect replied: «Out of curiosity». According to him, his mother already knows about the affair and is «disappointed». These things were said in a recording published on the Instagram account Luthfie.daily and quoted in the local media.
The police are now checking the full extent of the acts and their timeline. After the exposure of the case, the girl was returned to her mother's care and she is receiving psychological assistance and accompaniment during the legal process. The authorities stated that in parallel with the criminal investigation, treatment for her physical and mental recovery is continuing.
