Ukrainian UAVs Strike Russian Regions: Casualties Reported
On Tuesday morning, Ukrainian drones hit targets in the Moscow and Tver regions and near St. Petersburg. At least six people were killed in strikes on Wildberries warehouses and other facilities.
At least six people were killed this morning (Tuesday) and six others were wounded when Ukrainian UAVs exploded in the Moscow and Tver regions and near St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city. This appears to be another morning of deepening the strategic gains that Kyiv has been recording recently by launching unmanned aerial vehicles deep into the Russian rear.
At the same time, it was reported that in a separate dramatic incident, a soldier in the Russian army went on a shooting spree on the Crimean Peninsula, murdering one of his fellow servicemen and three civilians.
Strikes on Logistics and Economy
Media outlets in Russia report that Ukrainian UAVs hit three large warehouses this morning, at least two of which belong to the Russian online trading company Wildberries. In recent weeks, Ukraine has attacked more than 12 warehouses and large distribution centers of the company, known as the "Russian Amazon," causing severe disruptions to the Russian economy.
Wildberries founder Tatyana Kim, the richest woman in Russia with a fortune exceeding 6 billion dollars, has in recent days called Ukraine's actions "terrorist acts."
The main impact this morning was on a facility in the city of Chekhov in the Moscow region, where five people were killed and 10 were wounded. In St. Petersburg and the Tver region, other Wildberries warehouses were hit, resulting in fires and infrastructure damage.
Campaign to Bring the War Home
These deadly events come after weeks in which Ukraine has managed to strike repeatedly at the Russian rear, as part of what it calls "the campaign to bring the war to the homes of ordinary citizens in Russia." The Ukrainian intention is to make Russian citizens feel a portion of the suffering experienced by Ukrainians since February 2022, thereby increasing pressure on Vladimir Putin to strive for a peace agreement.
As part of this campaign, Ukraine has hit various oil facilities, infrastructure, and distribution centers, leading to fuel shortages and supply chain disruptions across Russia.
Just yesterday, Russia accused Ukraine of killing six people, including three children, in a UAV strike on a beach in a Russian Black Sea resort. In the incident in Sevastopol this morning, Russian media reported that a soldier opened fire on his fellow servicemen before turning his weapon on civilians, killing three of them. The soldier has been arrested, though the motive remains unknown.
Meanwhile, Russia's attacks inside Ukrainian territory continue. This morning, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow reported that Russia attacked seven Ukrainian cargo ships in the port of Mykolaiv and on the Black Sea.
