Mohammed Dahlan has rejected allegations by the Likud party claiming he orchestrated a foreign publication intended to meddle in Israeli politics. Dahlan asserted that these accusations are a blatant attempt by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to divert public attention from his political responsibility for the failures of October 7.
Dahlan Denies Interference
In a statement issued by the reformist faction of Fatah headed by Dahlan, the claims were dismissed as "ridiculous and misleading," insisting that his faction has never been a party to internal Israeli political struggles. The statement emphasized that the identity of Israel's prime minister is secondary to Palestinian concerns, focusing instead on the overarching policies of Israeli governments toward the Palestinian people.
"Our primary concern is what Israeli governments do toward the Palestinian people, their rights, and their land," the statement read, adding that Dahlan harbors no ambition to influence the formation of a different Israeli government.
Likud Alleges Foreign Plot
Dahlan's response follows a severe statement released by Likud, which claimed that recent media reports constituted "blatant foreign interference" in Israel's upcoming elections. The ruling party alleged that Dahlan seeks to control the Gaza Strip and therefore conspired to unseat Benjamin Netanyahu, linking these unproven allegations to figures such as Yair Golan and Avigdor Lieberman.
Likud further demanded a criminal investigation into journalists and opposition figures, intensifying the political confrontation over the contested media leaks.
