Plane crash in Peru: 13 people killed

A light aircraft crashed on Saturday near the Pueblo Viejo airstrip in Nazca, Peru, resulting in the deaths of all 13 people on board, including 11 passengers and two crew members.

According to a preliminary assessment, all the passengers on the plane, which arrived from Pisco, were tourists on their way to an observation flight over the Nazca Lines. The plane crashed in an agricultural area and caught fire; there were no survivors. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation.

Earlier this month, a seaplane made an emergency landing in the East River between Brooklyn and Manhattan in New York shortly after 12:00 PM local time, city authorities told CNN.

According to the New York Police Department, several passengers sustained minor injuries. The city's fire department rescued eight people from the plane, which landed upright in the water north of the Williamsburg Bridge. The fire department stated that the call was received at 12:01, and an operation began to tow the plane to the pier.

The United States Federal Aviation Administration stated that one of the wing support struts broke during the landing and announced an investigation into the incident. The identity of the plane's owner has not been released.

Earlier that same week, a Delta Air Lines plane was struck, apparently by fireworks, while descending for landing at Midway Airport in Chicago, according to air traffic control recordings and a statement from the company. The plane landed safely, no one was injured, and US authorities have opened an investigation.

According to a CNN report, the pilot of flight 1076 was heard on radio recordings reporting to air traffic controllers:

"We just got hit by a firework. We're just hoping it was a firework that exploded underneath us, but we definitely felt a loud bang."

The pilot added that the plane was at an altitude of only about 200 feet during the descent.
