A difficult and dramatic piece of news for Maccabi Haifa: according to a report published this Tuesday evening, the gravest concerns regarding the condition of winger Manuel Benson have been confirmed. After undergoing a comprehensive MRI scan, it was diagnosed that the player is suffering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament as well as a torn meniscus.
According to a publication by "Walla! Sport", the injury occurred on Monday during the "Greens" match in the Toto Cup against Ironi Kiryat Shmona. The midfielder was forced to leave the pitch, and already at that moment, the medical staff feared it was a serious knee injury—an assessment that, unfortunately, received an official and final confirmation this evening.
Following the receipt of the test results, Maccabi Haifa published an official statement of support:
"Benson will begin the treatment and rehabilitation process in the near future in accordance with the medical staff's instructions. The club wishes him a speedy and full recovery and will stand by his side throughout the entire rehabilitation process."
As recalled, Manuel Benson arrived at the Carmel during the transfer window in the middle of last season, signing with the "Greens" on a free transfer from the English club Burnley. Now, instead of becoming a central cog in the team's lineup ahead of the upcoming season, he will have to deal with a long and complex rehabilitation that is expected to sideline him for many months, while Maccabi Haifa will have to recalculate its path in the attacking department.
