"I am very disappointed": A week after the verdict was handed down in the lawsuit filed by MK Simcha Rotman against "Channel 12 News" reporter and commentator Guy Peleg, the latter criticized the leadership of the judicial system in general and Supreme Court President Isaac Amit in particular.

In his remarks, Peleg expressed disappointment at the lack of a systemic response to defend Magistrate Court Judge Oren Silverman, who ruled in Peleg's favor.

"I have nothing to do with the Deputy President of the Jerusalem Magistrate Court, Oren Silverman," Peleg wrote on his X account. "I have never spoken to him except during the hearing of the case. Moreover, during the hearing, I thought he was really exaggerating the hostility he showed towards me."

"But a week after the verdict, in which the judge threw MK Rotman out of the door in the vile SLAPP lawsuit he filed against me, I must say: I am very disappointed. I am disappointed by the spineless conduct of Supreme Court President Isaac Amit and the Courts Administration, who did not respond firmly to the vile attack on the judge."

Peleg added and addressed the criticism directed at Judge Silverman since the decision was handed down: "It was another terrible assault by the 'poison machine.' Apparently, when you are a magistrate judge and not a Supreme Court judge, the attacks on you are less shocking to the system. Is it possible that President Amit is intimidated? I fear so."

The Rotman-Peleg battle and the storm

Peleg's criticism comes following the conclusion of a defamation lawsuit that took place in the Magistrate Court. MK Simcha Rotman filed a lawsuit for about one million shekels against Guy Peleg, "Channel 12 News," and the Keshet company, following a 2023 report. According to the report, Rotman said during a closed meeting that "the blood of those murdered in Huwara is redder than the blood of those murdered on October 7." Rotman denied the remarks and claimed it was a false publication.

Deputy President of the Jerusalem Magistrate Court, Judge Silverman, dismissed the lawsuit. The verdict determined that the defendants proved the "truth in publication" defense, based on the testimonies of legal experts from the Ministry of Justice who were present at the meeting.

After the decision was handed down, MK Rotman and his supporters criticized the verdict and Judge Silverman. Peleg's claim now is that the refusal of President Amit and the Courts Administration to provide an official response on the matter constitutes a lack of support for judges.
