"How was the boat not identified"? In front of tourists - dozens of migrants break into Spain

About 60 migrants arrived by boat at the La Manga bay (La Manga del Mar Menor) while quite a few tourists were present at the site. The boat arrived at the famous Spanish bay yesterday around 13:00. The migrants jumped from it and hurried past the vacationers on the beach. Government sources have not yet stated how many migrants arrived at the shore and how many of them were arrested or caught.

Spanish politician Francisco Bernabé, former mayor of La Unión, located near the beach, attacked the situation:

"Dozens of illegal migrants landed today in the La Manga club bay. How is it possible that a boat of such size was not identified by surveillance radar?"

Noelia Arroyo, mayor of Cartagena, of which Cala del Barco is a part, was outraged:

"This cannot be normalized. If a migrant boat can reach such a bay, disembark in front of citizens and then leave, we must ask ourselves how the control of our maritime borders is operating."

La Manga is famous for the resort located on the seashore, the golf course, the football training complex, and the luxury hotel. The resort has previously hosted celebrities such as David Beckham, Matt Damon, Salma Hayek, and Robbie Williams. Additionally, recently, the football pitches were used by the Arsenal and Newcastle United teams for pre-season training.

The event comes after thousands of migrants stormed the borders of Ceuta and Melilla at the end of last month, set vehicles on fire, and clashed with security forces. At that time, the Spanish army was deployed in the area and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez arrived for an emergency visit.
