This week, the Prime Minister of Israel encountered a group of sourpusses

First of all, it was important for Donald Trump to shrink Benjamin Netanyahu, to return him to his natural state as the head of a small, client state. To remove from his head the crown of the braggart, the one who knows everything, who in recent months has been accustomed to appearing before the Americans as Mr. Security, a master of the Iran issue, the one with the winning formula in his pocket, the knight of stratagems — the man you can rely on to lead to a short, effective, victory-shining war.

This week, when they met in Washington, the Prime Minister of Israel encountered a group of sourpusses: the President's men, whose gaze toward him was suspicious. He entangled them in a war that the majority of the American public opposes, and opposes its funding by the American taxpayer. The magic has faded, the magician has become repulsive.

Just three hours before his meeting with Donald Trump, the American President was interviewed on Fox News and, with a tone of disdain, said:

'I don't need Bibi to tell me that (about the intelligence gathered on Mount Meron). Bibi says that because he wants me to stay involved. We have the best cameras. We know what is happening there.'

When you value a leader, you do not disrespect him in front of the nation. Benjamin Netanyahu's party with the Americans is over: he burned all bridges with the Democrats long ago. But recently, against the backdrop of the war with Iran that leads nowhere, he has also lost a large segment of the Republican Party.

Throughout his career, Benjamin Netanyahu boasted that he knows America well, that he knows how to crack its secrets. Now, under his leadership, Israel has lost America — the superpower whose warm and close relations are the main component of national security. Donald Trump is no better than Benjamin Netanyahu when it comes to boasting and the vice of hubris. However, Donald Trump is the head of a superpower that provides Israel with armaments, protection, broad wings, and ample budgets. Donald Trump is a known narcissist and loves to be the only peacock walking along the lake shore.

Benjamin Netanyahu's arrogance did not just bother him on a personal level. Donald Trump despises associating with those labeled as 'losers,' and Benjamin Netanyahu is, in the eyes of many in the US, a loser who has lost the winning aura that Israel once had. Donald Trump understood that on all fronts, Israel boasts of its ability to crush, to flatten, to violate agreements and ceasefires, and that all the stratagems do not bring results. There is no game-changing factor in them, and oil prices continue to rise — which hurts not only the American economy but also the global one.

This week, Benjamin Netanyahu knocked on the President's gate. Donald Trump opened the door for him but did not reach out his arms. His body language and the words that came out of his mouth regarding the visit indicated that he had enough. Donald Trump's attention span is low, and he has a rather vicious habit of adopting the opinion of the last person who whispered in his ear. He wakes up in the morning and threatens to open the gates of hell on Iran, and a few hours later says they are actually nice and smart people. In the morning he is full of fighting spirit, and towards evening, he reads the data from the stock market and goes crazy. He doesn't need this on his watch, certainly not before the midterms.

It is not impossible that he is more attentive to voices calling for the imposition of arms restrictions on Israel. Perhaps out of the bitter will come the sweet, perhaps someone who will lead Israel in the future will understand that there are no happy wars, and decisions are better made in the political fields. And perhaps a leader will arise who will flex fewer muscles and understand the limitations of power and the need, after all the gloomy wars, to try the path of peace once and allow Israel to dance again with America, with the world.
