Bnei Herzliya signed D.J. Bruton: "A special player"
The Sharon-based team announced the addition of the guard who won the Polish championship with Legia Warsaw: "We have been following him since last summer. He still has a lot of upside." He joins four foreign players who are continuing from last season.
Bnei Herzliya announced today the signing of American guard D.J. Bruton for the upcoming season. Bruton is the first new foreign reinforcement to land in Herzliya, after the team retained no fewer than four players who played for the club last season.
"D.J. is an interesting and special player whom we have been following since last summer," said coach Yehu Orland. "He is a versatile player who can play three positions, help with ball handling, a creator with high-level one-on-one ability, a very good defender, and a tough player. He proved his ability to excel in the money time of the playoffs in both Lithuania and Poland. He still has a lot of upside and the ability to continue to improve and progress, and I look forward to seeing him in our ranks soon."
Bruton (26, 1.92m) played three years at Alcorn State, before moving to California State Fullerton, where he stood out with 18.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He began his professional career at Jonava in Lithuania, led it to fifth place in the league, and with great ability in the playoffs, carried it to the semifinals. He started last season at Italian Udine, but in the middle of the season moved to Legia Warsaw, where he played alongside Shane Hunter from Maccabi Tel Aviv, and won the championship with the team while recording 14.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in the playoffs.
As mentioned, Bruton joins four foreign players who are continuing in Herzliya: D.J. Barnes, Noah Carter, Zach Bryant, and Deshawn Francis. The team added Amit Menachem and Dusty Hannahs to the Israeli roster and is expected to make further reinforcements ahead of the start of the season, both in the Super League and in the BCL.
