Binyahu Melet, member of Havat Gilad rapid response team, murdered in terror attack

It has been cleared for publication that Binyahu Melet, 32, a resident of Havat Gilad, a member of the settlement's rapid response team and the farm's agricultural manager, was the victim of a severe shooting attack that occurred this morning, Friday, near Havat Gilad.

Binyahu went out to assist a group of hikers who were attacked in the area and was shot by terrorists during the rescue operation. He is survived by his wife Esther and two daughters, aged 12 and 13.

The condition of one of the wounded, a 20-year-old, is critical, while a 25-year-old sustained serious injuries. Ichilov Hospital reported that the critically wounded victim is in the trauma unit, where doctors are fighting for his life. Following the attack, the Prime Minister's Office announced that Benjamin Netanyahu would convene a meeting with the Minister of Defense and the IDF Chief of Staff to discuss response measures. A statement on behalf of the Prime Minister said:

"We will act with force against the terrorists and those who sent them, and we will not allow terror in Judea and Samaria to raise its head."

Havat Gilad issued a statement to its residents:

"With great pain and deep sorrow, we announce the murder of Binyahu Melet in a terrorist attack carried out by despicable terrorists during the rescue of a group of hikers. Our hearts are with Esther, Tair, Eretz, Adama Ivriya, and the entire Melet family. We will assist them in every way possible."

The head of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, eulogized him: "I have known him since he was a child: a man with a heart of gold, a devoted family man who loved the Land of Israel with all his soul. He heroically jumped to save lives, just as he did during the arson incident last Saturday. We embrace the family."
