Benny Dreyfus Appointed Chairman of State-Owned EAPC
Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich has appointed Benny Dreyfus, who recently resigned as CEO of Mifal HaPais, as the new chairman of the state-owned EAPC. He is set to assume the role in September.
After a nine-month vacancy, Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich appointed a new chairman for the state-owned company EAPC (Eilat Ashkelon Pipeline Company) on Monday. Benny Dreyfus, who resigned as CEO of Mifal HaPais yesterday, will take over the position at the beginning of September. He replaces Michal Abadi, who was appointed Accountant General at the Ministry of Finance earlier this year.
Dreyfus served as CEO of Mifal HaPais for six and a half years. Previously, he held the position of CEO of the Ministry of Construction and Housing. As a lawyer by profession, Dreyfus will be tasked with overseeing the company’s interests, primarily regarding the Dorad power plant, where the state holds a 37.5% stake through EAPC, making it the largest shareholder.
EAPC also owns the land on which the Dorad power plant operates and where the Dorad 2 station is planned to be built. Last May, EAPC demanded an annual rent of 120 million shekels for the 75-dunam plot. This demand has cast doubt on the economic feasibility of the Dorad 2 project, prompting negotiations between Dorad and EAPC to adjust the rent, which had previously stood at only 3.7 million shekels per year.
