Benjamin Netanyahu confirms IDF strike in Syria: "They were about to violate the status quo"

The Prime Minister's Office published a statement on Tuesday in which Israel claimed responsibility for the overnight strike in Syria. According to the statement, Syria violated the security status quo by allowing Turkish forces to deploy on its territory. Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he views this as a threat to national security and will not tolerate such actions.

The text of the statement:

"Israel and Syria agreed to maintain the status quo on security matters, which Syria was about to violate by allowing Turkish forces to deploy at an airbase near Aleppo. Israel warned Syria repeatedly that such a deployment would constitute a threat to Israel's security. Syria chose to ignore these warnings. Israel will not tolerate threats to its security, and will welcome a return to the status quo."

Even before the Israeli admission of responsibility, the American envoy to Syria and Lebanon, Tom Burke, spoke out against Israel for the second time following the strike. Burke claimed that Israel should have notified Turkey about the attack, as Recep Tayyip Erdogan could have easily prepared a counter-response against the Israeli aircraft.
