Israeli Broadcaster Kan Suspends Veteran TV Host Ayala Hasson Over Remarks
Veteran Israeli TV host Ayala Hasson has been suspended by Kan broadcaster management over controversial remarks about Bedouin women, sparking a fiery public debate.

Veteran Israeli journalist and TV host Ayala Hasson has been suspended from her program by the management of the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) following controversial remarks she made regarding women in Bedouin society. Kan's news division issued an ultimatum, stating that Hasson will not be allowed to return to the airwaves until she broadcasts a formal apology and clarification phrased and approved in advance by her superiors. The controversy erupted after an interview Hasson gave on Galei Yisrael radio, during which she criticized the portrayal of election results in the Bedouin sector and made sweeping generalizations about polygamy and the status of Bedouin women.
The suspension has sparked sharp public debate, with right-wing activist Yoav Eliasi publicly defending Hasson and launching a scathing attack on Israeli media management and news editor Lior Landenberg. Eliasi condemned the ultimatum as an illegal and unethical demand, accusing the public broadcaster of double standards and political bias. He argued that while controversial statements regarding IDF soldiers often pass without demands for apologies, Hasson is being targeted for political reasons.
Eliasi urged Hasson not to yield to management's demands, encouraging her to continue asking tough questions. Despite an initial clarification and a decision by the ethics committee accepting her explanations, network executives insisted on an on-air apology dictated by management, warning that refusal to comply would result in her continued suspension from broadcasting.
