Did you remember to fill up before the price jump tonight?
A liter of gasoline will jump at midnight by 61 agorot, and by about 30 shekels per tank. So that next time you don't feel such a blow to your pocket, here are some recommendations for electric cars, plug-in models, and hybrids.
At gas stations today, there were larger crowds than usual, as many drivers rushed to fill their tanks before the major price hike at midnight.
This is because the tensions of the last two weeks with Iran are reaching our pockets: the price of a liter of 95-octane gasoline at self-service will increase at midnight between Saturday and Sunday by 61 agorot and will cost 8.09 shekels, the highest price since the outbreak of the 'Roar of the Lion' war in February.
In May and June, we paid 8.05 and 8.07 shekels per liter, and in June the price dropped to 7.48 shekels, and we are approaching the all-time record price: 8.25 shekels per liter that we paid in September 2012. The surcharge for full service will be 25 agorot per liter.
So, we can no longer save you from this price hike, but here are some options for fuel-efficient cars for the next time you purchase a vehicle:

Electric vehicle owners read reports about fuel price hikes like an unpleasant memory from the past. And there are also modern electric options second-hand for less than 100,000 shekels.

Plug-in hybrids: if you have the option for regular daily charging, at home or at work, a plug-in hybrid car can save you a lot of money on current expenses and make all or most of your daily trips electric, and significantly improve fuel consumption on long trips, without being forced to look for charging stations when the battery runs out.
