Before It Even Comes Out: An International Achievement for Avi Nesher’s Film

Another Israeli delegation: the Toronto International Film Festival tonight published an additional list of films that will be screened next month in its 51st edition, and among them is "Our Loves," the new film by director Avi Nesher.

Nesher’s film follows the stories of seven different characters who were affected by October 7. It stars Shalom Michaeliashvili, Maggie Azarzar, Yaniv Biton, Noa Cohen, Hadass Yiron, Evelyn Haguell, Lena Freyfeld, and the young actress Daniel Gimpel, who is nominated for the Ophir Prize for her role. "Our Loves" will be screened in Toronto as part of the Centerpiece lineup, dedicated to outstanding works from around the world. It joins films already announced for the main lineups, including premieres of new works directed by Oscar winners Shana Heder ("CODA") and Florian Zeller ("The Father"), as well as projects by actor and comedian Chris Rock and "Friends" star Courteney Cox. Meanwhile, in Israel, "Our Loves" opened the week with 12 nominations at the upcoming Ophir Awards ceremony, including Best Film.

This is the second year in which a film about October 7 has been selected for the Toronto Film Festival. Last fall, a documentary about reservist officer Noam Tibon was at the center of pro-Palestinian protests, and its screening was almost canceled before it ultimately won the Audience Favorite Award. The Toronto Film Festival will open on September 10, exactly one week after the expected premiere of "Our Loves" in Israel.
