Deadly Russian attack in Ukraine: Poland scrambled fighter jets
At least eight people were killed this morning in Ukraine in a widespread Russian air attack that included dozens of missiles and hundreds of UAVs. Ukrainians are taking cover in the Kyiv Metro as Russia has launched a large attack with cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. Several missiles have hit the city.
One of the severe incidents occurred in the town of Radushne, near Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to local authorities, a ballistic missile hit a house where a large family was staying. The parents and three of their children, aged 6, 11, and 17, were killed on the spot, and two other children were rescued alive from the rubble.
Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the attack and wrote that it was an "ordinary house smashed to pieces by a ballistic missile." According to him, Russia launched more than 70 missiles, including many ballistic missiles, alongside more than 280 UAVs. He called on Ukraine's allies to accelerate the supply of air defense systems and warned that delays in the supply of anti-ballistic missiles lead to destruction and casualties.
In Lviv in western Ukraine, near the Polish border, heavy damage was caused to two residential buildings, and according to the mayor, more than 20 other structures, a school, and two kindergartens were damaged. About 30 people were injured, including children, and rescue teams worked at the scene to locate those trapped.
At the same time, in Poland, a powerful explosion was reported in the Lublin Voivodeship, near the Ukrainian border. The Polish army stated that an unidentified object moving westward was detected in the airspace, disappeared from radar, and later a suspected crash site was located in an unpopulated area. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that it appears to be a Russian missile, but emphasized that there is no full certainty regarding the type of missile. According to him, the forces were prepared for interception, but the object fell in an unpopulated area and there was no immediate danger.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its forces attacked "military facilities" throughout Ukraine, as well as three cargo ships. At the same time, Russia reported that it intercepted 258 UAVs overnight, while in western Russia, damage was reported to warehouses of the online retail company Wildberries following Ukrainian UAV attacks.
